On our most recent episode, GLS 03-02-12, we started talking about “trannies” toward the end of the show. Several communities and individuals have lashed out against us, claiming we promote violence against the transgendered, and preach “transphobic” hate. We’ve received hateful, threatening emails, tweets, messages and comments. We’ve been called bigots, homophobic, compared to the likes of Hitler, and one person even suggested we were dropped on the heads as infants.
We will have an official statement regarding this controversy on the next episode of GLS. Until then, we do owe a specific, sincere apology to one particular individual.
Until the comments came flooding in, we had no idea who’s photo we posted on our main page. On the show, we were discussing a particularly attractive transgendered individual – no one would ever guess this person is transgendered… no one. After our discussion, we decided to post the photo on our main page and title it, “Tranny!”. We wanted listeners to see exactly what we were discussing on the show. This post was not meant to insult, hurt, or ridicule the person in the photo. We used the word “tranny”, only because that’s the word we used on the show for that entire segment – not to insult.
We’ve been threatened with some sorts of legal action for the posting of this photo, and its title. But this isn’t why we’re removing the photo and issuing an apology. We’re removing the photo because we feel it’s the right thing to do, especially after being contacted by the person in the photo. It sort of creates the realization that this is a real person, not just pixels from the internet. And for that, we apologize for posting the photo, and certainly for the title we chose.
